Neuel: Frolicky Suite (ETQ002)

Bern, Switzerland: Frolicky Suite is a first wad of collaborative efforts from Dimitri Grimm and drumming virtuoso Julian Sartorius. The two met in 2010 when Dimitri was looking for someone to live-perform the drum parts of his shows as ‘Dimlite’. Shortly after beginning to tour together, a collaboration was attempted aswell. Alas, as these things sometimes go, the harddrive with the half-finished music on it died in one of the following years and took a lot of unreleased material with it. Of these wild drafts, only one piece survived (video below).

More than ten years later, the end of summer 2023 saw them giving the undertaking another go and in occasional back and forths of sending each other musical bones and drafts, concocting up a fresh batch of this elusive sound, homogenously part free flow, part strict, straight-forward composition. It’s a music that occupies its own space in the tree, where it lovingly smiles at its siblings and other relatives, but prefers to hang alone. And these shall be the words spent! There would be so much to write here (if one wanted to let that happen), but for now: the first record from Neuel. Hidi Harrauh.

This album is available only as a download at the moment; to make up for that, a (very) small edition of silk-screen / hand-printed T-shirts (plus stickers) is available in the store.

Frolicky Suite releases on all digital platforms March 18, 2025. A vinyl release might come into being somewhen later this year.
